The system is possible to dispense a minute volume (pL-fL), which conventional dispensing method such as ink-jet is difficult. Also, it is applicable to high-viscosity solutions such as resin and glycerin.

It is expected that the system is useful not only for preparation of minute sample, which is required for high sensitive optical analysis, but also in the field of micro-fabrication such as novel electronics devices and new functional materials by patterning.

1. Applying pulse voltage between liquid into nozzle and a substrate.
2. Meniscus of the top deforms into cone shape.
3. The jet is ejected from the apex of the cone.
4. The jet accumulated as a droplet.

Since the jet formed by Coulomb force is very thin, droplets can be formed smaller than the nozzle diameter. Moreover, since Coulomb force works on the solution surface at the tip of a nozzle directly, the liquid materials with high viscosity are easy to form tiny droplets.

Easy to control dispensing volume
This technology is controllable for dispensing volume by the time of applying voltage. Therefore, It is possible to change the volume on the patterning process easily.





Pulse voltage unit, signal control unit and computer is contained in this system.

Applications

Patterning of UV cured resin

If the coordinates list of droplet position is created and it is made to read into the attached, the patterning corresponding to the list is formed on a substrate.

It was difficult to dispense liquid materials with high viscosity on a nonconductive substrate. We solved the problem by a new electrostatic-type inkjet.

The conventional method has a problem that the dispensing amount is unstable for a long term. Therefore it is necessary to stop manufacturing line because of maintenance temporarily. Our system solved the problem by using an electrostatic-type inkjet.

Furthermore, using multi-nozzle, our system has a potential to bring in revolutionary improvement in the coating process of functional materials for display.

It is possible to dispense tiny droplets with a volume of pico to femto-litter.
Dispensing technology with a volume of pico to femto-litter is required in the field of manufacturing and analysis because of resource saving. However, conventional ink-jet is hard to from tiny droplets.
The dispensing technology solves these problems by using an electro-spray.
